A blog for my enjoyment and your benefit. Hopefully.

In my current game, I have a couple of scenic views. I ended up in a war with Gilden, and figured, heck they've been beaten enough. I'll negotiate a peace treaty. 10 diplomatic capital equaled 2000 'weight points' on the scale (!). Later it was far less.

I then noticed that the temple (tower?) of essence - in the info screen - said 50% increase in the normal description, but in the detailed one it said  4900%, which seemed a bit much.

(Edit: The following is no longer true, but I will let it stay for the thread to make sense.).
I have not noticed this in earlier versions, nor have I noticed any effect at all from temple of essence (probably because I haven't put essence - using units in the town), but still, this is a bit of odd.

Temples of essence apply to all your units everywhere... I think... They don't have to be stationed in the city. That mechanic makes mass imbue strategies incredibly powerful. When shared mana pools show up, it will have to be re-balanced.

About temple. I|think it's just a text bug. Text description generator assumes that bonus value in XML data files is multipier of 1, for essence boost. So if value in XML is 50, it will think it's 4900% bonus. On the other hand, actual boost of essence uses that numer as percentage, so value of 50% indeed does +50% to essence bonus.

.

Fun fact: in 1.06 or earlier, value was 1.5, so text screen showed correct 50%, but actual game effect was 1.25%.

For shards, text shows 900%, because actual value is 10, which works as 10%.

Free tip: you don't even need to imbue. All you need is one ring of essence - give it to any champion, kill two wolves, on level-up put points into essence, give ring to another champion, repeat as necessary

Or one of those essence potions you can find since turn 1

They won't give you a full Magic Point, but as soon as you level up you can spend a point in Essence and get a 3.5 MP pool.

Yeah, I use potions for that purpose myself, too. Anyway, after building a temple of essence I did notice that it does increase essence quite a bit. Useful; I guess that's a better way to get enough essence to cast summon fire giant and other high-cost spells.

(In fact, enough so that possibly, high cost spells should cost quite a bit more...).
